Dr. Tahar Messadi
earned his Diplôme d’Architecte (B.Arch.) at the Université de Constantine,
Algeria, and then pursued graduate studies in environmental technology at the
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he earned master’s and doctoral
degrees in architecture. Dr. Messadi’s
research focuses on the integration of sustainable environmental technology
into the design process, combined with an interest in smart façade technologies
and solid state lighting systems.
He taught at
Lawrence Technological University from 1989 – 94 and at Georgia Institute of
Technology from 1994 – 2003, where he earned the College of Architecture
Outstanding Teacher Award in 2000. Since
joining the University of Arkansas School of Architecture in 2003, he has
taught design studio and technology courses. In 2005,
he received the McIntosh Faculty Award, which funded a design/build research
trip to Bryan MacKay Lyons’ Ghost Lab in Nova Scotia. In 2004, he also received the Tau Sigma Delta
Medal for exceptional knowledge of, and contribution to, the field of
Environmental Technology. His
co-authored book: Field Guide to
Illumination has recently been published by SPIE.
Dr. Messadi is the former Education
Chair of the Illuminating Engineering Society, Georgia (IESNA-GA), and he currently
serves as president of the Western Branch of the
Arkansas Chapter of the U. S. Green Building Council.
