For parents

The School of Architecture will provide an excellent education for your child – but we care about more than that. With just under 400 students, we have more time than larger schools to attend to each student’s health, safety, and welfare. We take pride in knowing each student by name!

Here are some things we worry about, so you won’t have to:

Security

  1. The doors to Vol Walker Hall and Memorial Hall are locked at 7 p.m. After that time, students must use their identification cards to enter Vol Walker Hall and an access code to enter Memorial Hall.

  2. Both buildings are equipped with an alarm system that will summon University of Arkansas police officers if doors are propped open to circumvent security measures.

  3. Students working late may call the university police department and request Razorback Patrol. A police officer will escort students to cars or residence halls.
  4. In the event of severe weather, a major fire or violent crime on campus, the University of Arkansas will send out emails, voicemail and text messages within minutes to students, faculty and staff via RazALERT emergency notification system. Email notification is automatic, but students must opt in to RazALERT for emergency voicemail and text messages. Encourage your child to opt in; it's easy (here's how).

Wellness

To help new students adjust to college life and establish good diet and exercise habits, we offer workshops on time management, personal finance, stress management and self-care to first-year students.

Success Beyond School

It takes more than creativity and know-how to succeed as a designer. To hone our students’ leadership skills, we offer workshops that are required for all first- and second-year students. Older students may mentor younger students and perform community service.
