For transfer students

The School of Architecture offers a top-notch design education at an excellent value – and our graduates have enjoyed a 100 percent placement rate. Many of our students have transferred from other programs. You can, too.

Some key facts to remember:

  • A transfer student must have at least 24 transfer credit hours when applying for admission to the University of Arkansas. The student needs a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 for all college courses and be in good standing at the last institution attended.

  • If you are transferring from another degree program – say, engineering – and your goal is to be a licensed architect or landscape architect, expect to spend five years at the University of Arkansas. The design studio sequence has been carefully designed to fully prepare you for professional practice.

  • If you are transferring from an accredited design program, you may be able to save some time. You will need to provide a portfolio of work and course descriptions for all design studios. These will be reviewed to determine your placement.

  • Normally students transferring into the architecture program begin Design I studio in the spring semester, followed by Design II studio in the summer session. Completion of a college-level physics course prior to transfer may open the door to placement in the fall architecture studio

  • The registrar’s office evaluates courses offered at other institutions to determine which ones will transfer to the University of Arkansas. Check out the Transfer Course Equivalency Guide.

  • Students from neighboring states may be eligible for in-state tuition. Learn about the non-resident tuition award.

"It wasn’t that difficult to transfer into the architecture program. A lot of my engineering courses transferred — although I had to use calculus as an elective." Austin Chatelain, B.Arch. '06
