Garvan Woodland Gardens

Students and faculty have an opportunity to design and work in the School of Architecture’s “living laboratory” – Garvan Woodland Gardens. Located near Hot Springs National Park, this 210-acre woodland habitat botanical garden is overseen by the school and the Department of Landscape Architecture.

The Gardens are graced by a variety of garden settings and unique architectural structures designed and developed by world-renowned designers, including:

  • The Garden of the Pine Winds, which features a series of pools, waterfalls, bridges and walks designed by Japanese garden designer David Slawson
  • The Verna Cook Garvan Pavilion, an open air pavilion designed by School of Architecture alumni Fay Jones and Maurice Jennings
  • The Anthony Chapel, an elegant wood, glass and stone structure designed by alumni Maurice Jennings and David McKee
  • The Evans Children’s Adventure Garden, which engages children with a cave, waterfall, maze, tree houses and other interactive features, designed by alumnus Brent Vinson of Benham Companies

An internship program offers opportunities for summer study and employment.
