July 30, Steve Luoni to Discuss Light Rail at Fayetteville Public Library

The Fayetteville Public Library will host a presentation and discussion about the possibility of light rail in Northwest Arkansas at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30 in the library’s Walker Community Room.

Steve Luoni, director of the University of Arkansas Community Design Center, an outreach program of the Fay Jones School of Architecture, will discuss how a light rail system that connects Fayetteville to Bentonville with a spur to XNA Regional Airport could promote development in the area. Collaborators from Washington University in St. Louis, the School of Architecture and the Community Design Center will present their idea for a regional smart growth plan based on the area’s historic rail corridor.

A companion exhibit will be on display in the library’s Reading Room from mid-July through August.

Publication and distribution of the book Visioning Rail Transit in Northwest Arkansas is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence Grant Program, the UA Women’s Giving Circle and the University of Arkansas. Copies of the book will be distributed for free following Luoni’s presentation.

The event is free and open to the public.
