Hagy Belzberg, A.I.A., received his master of architecture with distinction from Harvard University and a bachelor of science from Arizona State University. He is a licensed architect in California, Colorado and Hawaii. During the last 11 years, Hagy has served as a director of the American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles, and has held graduate level instructorships at UCLA and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-arc). In 2008, he received the designation of "Emerging Voice" from the Architectural League of New York and was the recipient of the Emerging Talent Award from The American Institute of Architects.
Belzberg will present "Mitigating Complexity Through Performance Ornamentation" on Feb. 8. He offers this preview to his lecture: "Beyond historic application, ornamentation in architecture has evolved from passive adornment into active participation — performance ornamentation. From structural expression to interior environmental systems, creating detailed ornamentation to perform multiple tasks is crucial when dependence
on such systems as artificial light, ventilation and sound isolation are a basic program requirement."
