A fourth-year student from Paragould, Ark., Callie Williams will spend this fall at the University of Arkansas Rome Study Center for Architecture and the Humanities. Working under the supervision of an Italian architect, Callie and 11 other students will explore the architectural riches of Rome, Siena, Venice and Florence.
“One of my main goals for the semester is to work on my thesis
project - the creation of the early Christian church typology in Rome,”
Callie said. Click on her photo to read more.
A third-year landscape architecture student from Bentonville, Ark.,
Chrissy James will be studying historic landscapes in Rome, Paris, and
sites throughout England this summer, along with 11 other students.
Chrissy and a few others have chosen to extend the usual six-week
Summer European Studies program with a two-week workshop that will focus on gardens within a
series of Roman Renaissance villas, some of them not open to the public.
"I've
never been to Europe before, and neither have a lot of my classmates.
We've been looking forward to this trip for a long time," Chrissy
noted. For more on her travels, click on photo.
Jared Hueter is a fifth-year architecture student who believes that
"architecture is about serving people." To that
end Jared cofounded Re:Vision
student group, which organized a national conference to coordinate design community
response to Hurricane Katrina. That conference launched CITYbuild and numerous design/build projects in the Crescent City.
This spring Jared is in New Orleans, acting as local liaison for the School of Architecture's effort to rebuild Miss Gloria's Kitchen.
Famed for serving up grits, eggs, smoked sausage and a biscuit for a
buck, Gloria Caulfield’s restaurant has been closed since
Katrina flooded the city. Jared and 12 other UA architecture students are determined to
get Miss Gloria back in business . . . to read on, click on photo.
