Major and Minor History Concentrations
Students pursuing the Bachelor of
Architecture degree or the B.S. in Architectural Studies degree may declare
a minor concentration (at least 18 semester hours of elective course
work) or a major concentration (at least 33 hours of elective course
work and option studios) in the History of Architecture and Urbanism.
The minor concentration offers students preparing for traditional practice opportunities to focus a combination of professional and free elective courses in architectural history and theory. The major concentration, which requires production of a research thesis, promotes an intensive, upper level investigation of the field. Graduates with major and minor concentrations often enter graduate school in or find professional positions in historic preservation, higher education, museums, and public history.
Minors in Other Colleges
All School of Architecture students may pursue minors in other colleges. Requirements for academic minors are determined by individual departments and range from 15 hours (religious studies) to 21 hours (business). School of Architecture students have completed academic minors in subjects such as art, art history, geography, Spanish, English, classical studies, business and horticulture.
Pursuing a minor in related disciplines prepares students for a wide range of post-graduate experiences — and gives them an edge when they seek employment.
