International studies

The international study program introduces students to cities and landscapes very different from their own, enriching their design vocabulary and deepening their understanding of other cultures. In addition to the semester of international study, which is required in the five-year professional degree programs, students may choose to travel with faculty to significant cities and natural environments throughout the world.

The School offers a number of scholarships that support student travel. Exchange programs with schools in Italy and Mexico also promote a diverse student population.

The Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange is the university's one-stop shop for pre-departure preparations (passport and visa applications, health insurance and other stuff students need on the go).

European Field Studies

In this five-week summer program landscape architecture students analyze the design of ancient and contemporary gardens and investigate the relationships among buildings, boulevards and parks in some of the world’s grandest historic cities. Coursework begins in the school's Rome Study Center, where daily studios are supplemented by field trips to Siena, Pompeii, and Florence. Study in Paris, France and southern Great Britain completes the program.

Mexico Summer Urban Studio
Since 1994 the School of Architecture has provided students with the opportunity for a wide range of cultural and architectural experiences through the Mexico Summer Urban Studio. Working in cooperation with Mexico City architects and universities, students experience complex new social and urban conditions while working in the Mexico City studio of the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Luis Barragán. The 11-week program includes extensive field trips to the major architectural centers of Mexico. Check out the video

Rome Center for Architecture and the Humanities

Located in a palazzo near the Piazza Navona in the heart of Rome, the Rome Center for Architecture and the Humanities immerses fourth-year architecture students in a twelve-week program that offers courses in architectural design, architectural and urban history, and Italian cultural history. Students participate in northern study trips to Florence, Venice, and other cities, and work under the direction of Davide Vitali, an Italian architect who oversees the program. For more information visit the University of Arkansas Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange.

The School of Architecture has had a presence in Rome since 1986. Students participating in the Rome program also have the unique opportunity to participate in classes, benefit from the faculty and utilize the facilities, including the library, in the Universita degli studi Roma Tre.
