The Department of Architecture offers two degree options:
The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree prepares students for
professional practice as an architect. This degree requires 157
semester credit hours and normally takes five years, or ten semesters,
to complete.
The curriculum emphasizes architectural history, technology, and
design. Midway through the third year, students are evaluated for
admission to the professional degree program. Criteria for admission
include academic performance, completion of general education courses
and demonstrated commitment to work.
Highlights of the professional sequence include a required semester of
international study and professional elective courses that allow
students to explore different aspects of the field. Recent elective
topics include furniture design, construction management and the
architectural history of New Orleans.
The Bachelor of Architecture program is accredited by the National
Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Most states require aspiring
architects to hold an accredited degree.

The Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (ARSTBS) incorporates
coursework from the School of Architecture with liberal arts studies
for students with interests in related fields that may not require the
five-year accredited degree. This degree could lead to careers
in journalism, planning and non-profit organizations. It also provides
a good groundwork for graduate study in architecture and allied
disciplines such as architectural history, historic preservation, urban
planning or construction management.
